Musical direction from Roberto Rizzi Brignoli – Metz National Orchestra Direction by Paul-Émile Fourny With Patrizia Ciofi, Ho-Yoon Chung, Michele Govi, Giovanni Furlanetto and the Metz Metropolitan Opera-Theatre Choir Taking some historical liberties, Verdi captures the legend of Joan of Arc and presents us with an epic opera. King Charles II comes across Joan in a forest while she is praying for the salvation of her country, threatened by the English. She expresses that she is ready to bear arms. Joan’s father tries to dissuade her, persuaded that the King, with the aid of the Devil, has succeeded in seducing his daughter. In the same way as Rigoletto, Joan of Arc magnificently depicts father-daughter relationships and provides an extremely rich role for one of the greatest sopranos of our time, Patrizia Ciofi.
