The population of Montigny-lès-Metz increased considerably between 1880 and 1910, and it became urgent to build a church for Catholic worship. The German architect Ludwig Becker, specialised in religious architecture, proposed a project that combined the charm of the Romanesque with the splendour of the Gothic. In 1906, the church was inaugurated, and its superb frescoes and stained glass windows were revealed to the faithful.
